Company Outline
Oriental Electronics (ORI) was established innovatively in 1973
as a venture capitalized company for research and development business.
Today, ORI is one of leaders of an independent vendor of hardware and software
specialized in telemetric, communication and control field of the weather related
business in Japan.
The innovative technologies of ORI on the Meteorological and Hydrological systems are
highly ranked and attract wide and unique variety of partners in public and
private sectors.
The Meteorological Information Distribution Server System utilizing on the Internet
Technology, is now drawing people's attention as the key technology supporting the real
time weather information service such as the Message Switching System on the GTS network.
Abilities and Capabilities
ORI has served a solid base of clients with unique
and up-to-date from analogue to digital signal processing applications
in the fields of telemetric, control and communication applications related
to Hydro-Meteorological world.
Our products consists of analogue and digital systems ranging from sensor
and RF circuits up to digital signal processing filed, network technique,
computer BIOS and device driver, firmware and also application software.
Administrative Philosophy
As a team of experts specialized in electronic,
we are committed to contribute to the world by providing high quality
and low cost products, taking the best advantage of the unique and diverse skills
of the staff. This attitude also leads to achieving the satisfaction of our customers.
Technology Background
At the time of the establishment, the company's major business
was designing and manufacturing OEM products including commercial products.
Later it shifted to developing the applied 16 bits microprocessor,
and the founder (current president Yuji Hayashi) incorporated the company
in 1980 as Oriental Electronics Inc.(ORI).
ORI has been engaged in research and development of digital / analogue circuit
and software, and has contributed to the technology of telemeter, control
and communication. For example, applied instruments for the Time Sharing Multi Data
Transmission (produced in 1975) accelerated digitalization in the commercial industry
in control devices. Our meteorological telemetric and archiving systems have also
contributed a lot to the industry's digitalization. We are committed to being
a technological leader of meteorological data collection and delivery system,
TV weather program televising system as well as information display systems
for railway stations.
ORI has participated in the U.S. consortium aimed at developing next-generation
VLIW processor, which added to our international joint projects. Technical tie-up
with SWI, the specialized manufacture of satellite base station (US) started
in 1993 and advanced to the agency designation the nest year.
ORI has also produced unique applied systems utilizing the video processor,
those are now in operation at many TV and CATV stations, including a key-station
in Tokyo. In 1996, ORI produced a digital video recorder and player which records
and plays back motion and still pictures employing M-JPEG real time picture data
compression and expansion technique.
Business Outlook
As a pioneering technology company, ORI is committed
to being always contributing to the industry by making the most staffs' skills
and experiences.
Concerning space exploitation and its related technologies, Japan is walking
a few steps behind the US and Russia because those technologies advanced mostly
through pursuing military power under the Cold War. Today, private companies
in Japan are urgently required to attain those technologies (basic and applied)
because satellite related technologies are indispensable in meteorology, broadcast
and communication, and GPS. This is why we are trying to master the satellite related
technology, pioneering and promoting its utilization in the above-mentioned industries.
In the area of multimedia technology, we are aiming at realizing new MPEG technology based on the existing technology of M-JPEG digital video recorder and the graphical signal processing technologies with digital signal processors.
As for telemetric and telecommunication fields, our major aim is to popularize the latest technique related to the real time signal processing, remote sensing, on-line relational database and the Internet Web technologies through developing our unique application software.
